Bentley Walker have purchased new equipment to improve and expand their satellite internet services via Eutelsat SkyLogic's teleports in Turin and Cagliari, Italy. The acquisition of two iDirect 51F Hubs comes at the same time as a new software release from iDirect, iDX 2.1. Bentley Walker are now utilising this to deliver a variety of network services across Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and South America. iDirect is at the forefront of satellite-based IP communications technology. Bentley Walker is using their technology to improve and expand their broadband internet services to satisfy the needs of their growing customer base.
The additional iDirect hubs have enabled Bentley Walker to increase bandwidth capactiy on Eutelsats Premier W series Satellites W2, W6 and W7 which will provide extra coverage over the EMEA regions. This is good news for the many soldiers that make use of Bentley Walker's satellite internet in Afghanistan as well as for many new potential customers in Africa. These software and hardware updates have resulted in coverage being introduced in South America although at the moment that is limited to high end and military customers. There is also additional bandwidth available for many Virtual Network Operators (VNO) who do not own any telecomms structure but lease bandwidth from other providers.
The advances mean that Bentley Walker will be able to deliver more bandwidth at a lower cost to many customers. IDX 2.1 has a number of new capabilities include a 15% improvement in packet-per-second (PPS) performance, a new bandwidth allocation algorithm and scalability improvements that allows for up to 5000 remotes to be connected to a single network. Other improvements include software that monitors link performance with the aim of counteracting bad weather. Anthony Walker, CEO of Bentley Walker complimented the iDirect technology, “iDirect's Evolution satellite hubs give us the flexibility to offer a variety of services while maximising bandwidth efficiency – especially critical for serving capacity-restrained regions like Africa.”
The result of the new technology and software upgrades are a reduced cost for customers, a better service across the networks and an increased area of service which opens up new markets for Bentley Walker and allows more people from across the globe to benefit from their industry leading satellite internet services.
